Stephan Noller to represent interests of the internet industry in Brussels (Kopie)

  • IAB Europe elects nugg.ad CEO as Chairman of the Policy Committee
  • Work to focus on data protection and privacy
  • Role as mediator strengthens the internet industry at the European level

Berlin, 28/19/2009: Stephan Noller, CEO of nugg.ad, Europe’s largest targeting platform, was elected to be the new chairman of the policy committee at IAB Europe, on the 15th October in Brussels. In his new role, Noller will represent the interests of the European internet industry to political committees at the European level and will have an influence on current market developments. A clear focus of his work will be on data protection and privacy. IAB Europe has a membership of around 5000 companies, so representing 90% of internet businesses across Europe. The IAB is based in Brussels and also represents 20 IABs within Europe.

“Given the current debate surrounding data protection and privacy, it is essential to make it clear to politicians that the internet industry in Europe only applies technologies, such as Behavioural Targeting, with the strictest adherence to data protection requirements, constantly mindful of the interests of users. I am convinced that the industry – with certain exceptions – is better than its current image implies. A basis of trust must be created through education and dialogue, both in the political as well as the public arena. The future of online marketing lies in delivering advertising more intelligently than is possible through other media. The industry can not afford to lose this advantage lightly.” said Stephan Noller, CEO of nugg.ad and Chairman of the Policy Committee at IAB Europe.

"IAB Europe is very happy to have won Stephan Noller as Chairman of our Policy Committee. In this position, he represents the internet (advertising) industry in front of the political bodies of the EU. The EU Council of Ministers recently announced to accept the amended ePrivacy directive. Further important decisions, such as the amendment of a general directive for data privacy (1995/46/EG) are to follow and we require a business character to constructively shape this debate", states Alain Hereux, President & CEO IAB Europe.

IAB Europe has been representing the interests of the European Internet industry since 1998. From its headquarters in Brussels, The IAB promotes the development of the online advertising industry by acting as a regulator and through education. As its most important voice, it allows the internet industry to be heard both at national and European levels and at the same time strengthens the unity of the industry through events such as the Interact Congress. In addition to the election of Stephan Noller to IAB Europe, nugg.ad is also active at a national level in Germany through the BVDW. The working group on Targeting is led, among others, by Bernd Hennig, Strategic Projects Director at nugg.ad.
